Global Donut Days 2026: Tunisian Youth Explore Local Solutions for a Sustainable Future

Monastir, Tunisia | 20–24 October 2026

How can communities improve people’s quality of life while protecting the planet? This question brought young participants together at the Doughnut Lab in Monastir, Tunisia, on 20 October for the opening of Global Donut Days 2026.

Under the theme “24 Governorates: Young People Designing Sustainable Solutions for the Future,” the initiative invites young people to explore the challenges facing their communities and develop ideas that contribute to a more sustainable and inclusive future.

The opening day introduced participants to Doughnut Economics, a model that seeks to balance people’s social needs with the ecological limits of the planet. Through interactive activities, participants also explored the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their relevance to everyday life.

Working in teams, the young participants began identifying local challenges and discussing possible solutions. The exchange of ideas, group activities and informal moments helped create an atmosphere of collaboration, encouraging participants to look at familiar problems from new perspectives.

From learning to local action

Global Donut Days is designed to go beyond theoretical learning. By connecting sustainability concepts with real challenges in their communities, the initiative aims to give young people the knowledge and space to contribute to local development.

From protecting natural resources to improving quality of life and encouraging social innovation, the programme places young people at the centre of the process. Their experiences and ideas are a starting point for exploring solutions that respond to the needs of their communities.

The broader ambition is to establish the Doughnut Youth Tunisia network, bringing together young people who are interested in sustainability, community action and innovative approaches to local challenges. The network is intended to help build connections and encourage continued collaboration beyond the training itself.

Building connections for the future

Taking place from 20 to 24 October 2026, Global Donut Days in Monastir brings together youth engagement, sustainability education and practical problem-solving. The initiative is organised by MasterPeace Monastir-Tunisia, in collaboration with the Organization of Youth and Sports Entertainment, Doughnut Economics Action Lab (DEAL) and Global Donut Day.

As the programme continues, participants will have the opportunity to build on their initial discussions and further develop their ideas for a more sustainable future.

The message is clear: young people are not only affected by the challenges facing their communities. They can also play an active role in shaping the solutions.
