Jamaica's first event: Peace and global competitiveness
Jamaica has only recently joined our MasterPeace network, and they already had a great kick-off event! On the 5th of May, this young and energetic team organized an event in collaboration with NexxStepp Lifelong Education Services. The event was a competition where children between the ages of 7-12 were challenged to debate and think critically. The theme of the competition was Peace and Global Competitiveness, inspired by SDG 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. And at the end of the day, one student has been crowned the Little Genius.
MasterPeace Jamaica firmly believes that peace building is for both the young and the old hearted. “If we want to develop the skills that are needed to transform this world, then we need to start with the young minds of the youth. Together, they will form a platform that makes the world a better place”. Through debating, MasterPeace Jamaica teaches children how to disagree without starting a conflict. And how to respect themselves and others. The team at MasterPeace Jamaica is thrilled to pave the way for future peace builders… We are very excited about their ideas and determination, good luck MasterPeace Jamaica.

The Club leader, 18-year-old Damor McQueen is a creative visualizer, motivational speaker and peace-builder. He is attending the Morant Bay High School in St. Thomas, Jamaica, where he is the Students’ Council President, a honour roll student and mentor to his peers as a Students’ Councillor since 5 years. At the council, he is an active advocate on behalf of his peers and presents their views to the administrative body within the institution.
“As a fulltime volunteer and Peace-Builder, I enjoy impacting young lives through motivational talks and mentorship. It is as a result of this passion that I formed my own campaign, the Bumpy Purpose Campaign, which is aimed at unlocking purpose in everyone we come in contact with. The Campaign consists of Peace-Builders and active youth leaders who are passionate about making the world a better place. We firmly believe that a life without a purpose is a life without a destination.
My dream is to make MasterPeace Jamaica one of the most impactful MasterPeace Clubs around the world and by extension contribute to world peace, national and international development.”
