Youth Voices Shaping Europe: The Connected DOts Journey

Youth Voices Shaping Europe: The Connected DOts Journey

At MasterPeace Foundation, we believe that young people are not only the future of Europe — they are already shaping it today. Through the Connected DOts initiative, young people from across Europe came together to explore how their voices, ideas, and experiences can influence the policies that affect their lives.

Over the course of twelve months, the programme brought together more than 145 young participants and civil society representatives from five countries: the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia. Through workshops, dialogue sessions, collaborative learning, and policy simulations, participants explored some of the most pressing challenges facing young people today: democracy, digital security, and youth mental health.

From Dialogue to Action

The programme began with interactive youth advocacy workshops designed to strengthen participants’ understanding of European democratic processes and the EU Youth Agenda. These sessions provided a space for young people to exchange experiences across borders and reflect on how policies shape their everyday lives.

Participants then took part in policy dialogues and gamified learning sessions, including the innovative “Boiling Frog” simulation. This interactive exercise encouraged participants to explore how gradual changes in democratic systems and digital environments can affect civic participation and rights.

Through these activities, young people developed practical skills in advocacy, critical thinking, and collaborative problem-solving. Most importantly, they worked together to transform ideas into concrete policy recommendations.

Building a European Youth Dialogue

One of the most inspiring elements of the programme was the Mosaic of Youth Minds relay, a cross-country dialogue platform where participants led discussions on the issues most relevant in their local contexts. Each country brought its own perspectives — from digital democracy and media literacy to youth employment, inclusion, and sustainability.

These discussions allowed participants to learn from one another while identifying shared European challenges and opportunities. The relay created a truly transnational conversation, highlighting both diversity and common goals among young Europeans.

Simulating Policy Leadership

To deepen their understanding of policymaking, participants also took part in a simulation of the EU President’s Youth Advisory Board. In this activity, young people stepped into the role of policy advisors, debating proposals, refining ideas, and exploring how youth perspectives can contribute to European decision-making processes.

Through collaboration with experts and civil society mentors, participants translated their discussions and recommendations into a unified policy document.

The e-Youth Declaration

The programme culminated in the creation of the e-Youth Declaration, a youth-driven document addressing three key themes: democracy, digital security, and mental health.

Developed collectively by participants across the five countries, the declaration outlines practical recommendations for policymakers and calls for stronger youth participation in shaping the future of Europe. The declaration was formally shared with the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union and other European stakeholders.

Strengthening Youth Participation in Europe

Beyond its immediate outcomes, Connected DOts has helped strengthen youth networks and civil society collaboration across borders. Participants not only gained knowledge about European policy processes but also developed the confidence and skills needed to engage in civic life and advocacy.

By combining dialogue, digital participation, and collaborative policy development, the programme demonstrated how youth engagement can move beyond consultation toward meaningful participation.

At MasterPeace Foundation, we remain committed to creating spaces where young people can connect, learn, and lead. The voices gathered through Connected DOts are a reminder that Europe’s future is strongest when young people are part of the conversation — and part of the solution.
